Know mesquite? Help us build the best plain-language field guide to the tree.
The Texas Mesquite Association is an independent, community-built resource, and we welcome contributions from people who work with mesquite firsthand: growers and landowners, pit masters and cooks, woodworkers, beekeepers, foresters, and Extension-minded naturalists. If you can explain a corner of the mesquite world clearly and accurately, we want to hear from you.
What we publish
We look for practical, genuinely useful guides that help a reader do or understand something specific: identifying a species, seasoning firewood, milling pods, finishing a slab, managing a thicket. Pieces should be written for a general reader, honest about trade-offs, and free of hype.
What we ask
Contributor standards
- Accurate and fact-checked, with sources for any specific claim, number, or date.
- Original writing, not copied or spun from another site.
- Plain language, useful structure, no filler.
- Honest framing that respects our independence and disclaimer.
- No promotional or thin content dressed up as a guide.
We edit for accuracy, clarity, and house style, and we may fact-check against primary sources before publishing. We do not publish undisclosed paid placements or link schemes.
How to pitch
Send a short note describing your topic, your firsthand experience with it, and an outline or draft. Email hello@texasmesquiteassn.org with "Contribute" in the subject line. If it is a good fit, we will reply with next steps.
The Texas Mesquite Association is an independent educational resource. It is not a government agency, and not an official trade, membership, or certifying body. Always confirm identification, food, and land-management details with a qualified local expert or your county Extension office before acting.
